The Kenmore KM70 is a large dehumidifier with a well-known name. It did not impress in our older test. Here is what it did, what the link shows now and what to buy instead.

What the Kenmore KM70 Was
The Kenmore KM70 was a 70-pint, Energy Star dehumidifier meant for basements and large rooms. The older review liked its look and some of its features, but not its price or its results. The Amazon link on the older page now opens a Kenmore 50-pint model with a different name, so the KM70 itself is no longer listed under that link.
Looking ahead, store-brand dehumidifiers like the Kenmore are slowly leaving the market. Under the newer test, 70-pint units from 2018 are rated as 50-pint units, and brand names now sit on a few shared factory designs. The catch is that an old review can end up linked to a different machine, which is what happened to this one.
What the Older Review Said
- Power. About 590 watts at 50 percent humidity, which is low for the class.
- Drying. In a 50 square foot test room at 90 percent humidity, it reached 41 percent in 11 minutes, then crept back to the high 40s. It could not get a room below about 40 percent.
- Controls. A humidistat in 5 percent steps and a delayed-start timer up to 12 hours, with no delayed stop.
- Fan. Three speeds: auto, low and high.
- Cycle timer. Runs 3, 6 or 12 hours, then rests for the same time.
- Drain. A gravity hose adapter is needed to connect a standard garden hose.
- Bucket. Cleancel antimicrobial treatment.
- Display. Shows only the humidity you set, not the room reading, and there is no filter light.
The risk to watch is slow drying. The older review lowered a small test room from 90 to 41 percent in 11 minutes, then watched it climb back to the high 40s. A unit that cannot get below 40 percent is weak for a basement. Expect more units sold on a brand name and a big pint label. Read the recent reviews on humidity results before you trust a name.
Noise and Upkeep
The older review said buyers found the compressor loud, but quieter than some big units, and best on low fan in a basement. The filter slides out of the bottom, and the manual has clear diagrams and troubleshooting steps. Because the display shows no room reading, pair it with one of the best dehumidifiers for basements guides and a cheap hygrometer. Size a replacement with how to choose the right size dehumidifier.
What to Buy Instead
The older review pointed to the Honeywell TP70PWK, the Vremi and the hOmeLabs as better buys. The Honeywell page is gone now, see our Honeywell TP70PWK review. For what the 70-pint label means today, read 70-pint dehumidifiers, and for the 50-pint class, see best 50-pint dehumidifiers.

Pros and Cons
Pros: Energy Star; low power draw; three fan speeds; cycle timer; antimicrobial bucket; clear manual.
Cons: slow to dry a room in the older test; could not get below about 40 percent; display shows only the set point; no filter light; KM70 name no longer on the link; thin ratings on the Kenmore 55550.
FAQ
Is the Kenmore KM70 still sold?
The Amazon link on the older page now opens the Kenmore 55550, a 50-pint unit. The KM70 name no longer appears there.
Was the KM70 a good dehumidifier?
The older review did not recommend it. It dried a small test room slowly and cost more than rivals.
What is a better pick?
The Keystone KSTAD70B and the hOmeLabs 50 Pint both have far more ratings than the Kenmore.
Does it have a pump?
No. It drains by gravity hose or bucket, per the older review.
Final Word
The KM70 never earned a strong recommendation, and its link now goes to a different model. For a big damp space, a Keystone or hOmeLabs with thousands of ratings is the safer buy.
What happens next: expect more 50-pint models with Wi-Fi, pumps and clear listings, and fewer store-brand 70-pint units. For a big damp space, buy by current rating and drain options.
