Yaufey 31-Pint Dehumidifier Review: Price, Noise and Who It Fits

A wet basement does not care about your plans for the weekend. It wants a dehumidifier that runs all day without fuss, and it does not want to spend $300 for the pleasure.

The Yaufey 31-pint, often searched as the 30-pint, is a $169.99 option with a 4.5-star rating from more than 6,400 Amazon buyers. It is rated for up to 2,500 sq ft, comes with a 6.56-foot drain hose and shuts itself off when the tank is full. Here is who it fits.

What the pint number means

The Yaufey claims up to 31 pints a day at 95 degrees Fahrenheit and 90 percent humidity. That is a hot, wet test. Since 2019, the Department of Energy tests dehumidifiers at 65 degrees and 60 percent, which gives lower pint numbers for the same machine. An older 30-pint rating is roughly a new 20-pint rating. So treat 31 pints as a strong small-to-mid unit, not a giant.

Not sure what size you need? Use our dehumidifier sizing guide or the pint calculator.

What you get

  • A 24-hour programmable timer and auto shut-off when the tank is full.
  • Regular and turbo fan speeds.
  • A removable, washable filter.
  • A 6.56-foot drain hose for continuous draining.
  • Wheels and a handle.

The tank is small, 0.48 gallons. In a damp basement that fills fast, so plan to use the hose. Point it at a floor drain or sump pit, or look at units with a built-in pump: see dehumidifiers with pumps and using a hose to a utility sink.

Who should buy it

  • Anyone with a damp basement, garage or laundry area up to a few hundred square feet of real dampness.
  • Renters who want a hose-ready unit for a modest price.
  • Buyers who like a washable filter and simple controls.

Skip it for a flooded or musty crawl space. For that, read the crawl space dehumidifier picks. For a bigger basement, the basement dehumidifier guide covers larger units.

Running cost and humidity target

Dehumidifiers pull 300 to 700 watts when running, which is roughly 54 to 126 kilowatt-hours a month if it runs about six hours a day, depending on the unit and the day. Aim for 30 to 50 percent humidity. The EPA says to keep indoor humidity below 60 percent, and ideally 30 to 50 percent, to limit mold.

Where dehumidifiers are heading

Expect more units with built-in pumps and Wi-Fi at the same price. Ratings are also becoming more honest, since the 2019 test change, so shoppers will see smaller numbers on boxes. Treat that as a reset, not a downgrade.

The risk: smaller tanks and cheaper compressors to hit low prices. A unit that needs emptying twice a day will not get used. Look for hose or pump support before you buy.

Pros and cons

ProsCons
Strong review base: 4.5 stars from more than 6,400 buyersSmall 0.48-gallon tank fills fast in damp spaces
Drain hose included (6.56 ft)Pint rating uses a hot, humid test, not the newer DOE test
Washable filter, 24-hour timer, wheelsNo built-in pump, so the hose needs a downhill path
Under $170Brand support is less established than Midea or Frigidaire

Setting it up in a basement

  • Put it in the dampest open area, a foot or more from walls.
  • Run the hose to a floor drain or sump, keeping the hose sloping down.
  • Set the humidity target to around 45 percent.
  • Close windows and doors to the area so it is not pulling in outside air.
  • Wash the filter every couple of weeks in damp seasons.

If the hose cannot run downhill, a pump unit is the better fix. We compare them in dehumidifiers with built-in pumps. Also check why a dehumidifier is not collecting water if it runs but the tank stays empty.

Another trend: expect more dehumidifiers to include a built-in pump by default and to talk to phone apps. Both are good for basements. Do not be surprised if tanks keep shrinking on cheap models as makers cut costs. That would make a hose or pump essential, not optional.

Frequently asked questions

How often does the tank need emptying? In a damp basement, often several times a day. That is why the included hose matters.

Can it run 24/7? Yes, with the hose set up and a humidity target on the control. It will cycle off on its own.

Is 31 pints enough for a basement? For a moderately damp 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft basement, usually. For standing water or heavy musty smell, go bigger and fix the source first.
