Several picks on the older page are unavailable or have no Amazon listing. Current prices were checked on Amazon on October 16, 2026. Room sizes and CADR figures come from the listings and the older page and were not retested.
Large rooms need real airflow, not a big number on the box. Here is how to size one, what changed since the older list and four picks to buy.

What Changed Since the Older Page
As of October 16, 2026, three of the seven old picks can be bought as listed: the Medify MA-112 ($594.99), the Coway Airmega 400 ($633.69) and the Hathaspace HSP002 ($299.99). The Winix 5510 ($179.99) joins as a lower-cost option. The Alen BreatheSmart 75i shows as currently unavailable. The AirDoctor 5500 is sold through the AirDoctor store. The Okaysou Apollo 818 and the Levoit LV-H133 were not rechecked. Our AirDoctor vs Coway guide compares the premium pair.
The Math Behind Square Feet
A room rating is a promise about air changes an hour. Take an 8 foot ceiling. To change the air of a room N times an hour, you need CFM = square feet times 8 times N, divided by 60. A 500 square foot living room at five changes needs 333 CFM. At two changes, 133 CFM. The older page gave the Okaysou 1,500 square feet and then said it fits 300 at five changes, which is correct. Read what CADR means before you compare claims.
Checking the Old Claims
The older page gave the Medify MA-112 a CADR of 560 CFM and 5,000 square feet. The Amazon listing says 5,948 square feet in an hour. At 560 CFM, one change an hour fits about 4,200 square feet, and five fits 840. The older page also listed the Alen 75i at 1,300 square feet every 30 minutes, which is two changes an hour, or 520 square feet at five. That pair is self-consistent.
Open Plan or One Room
Air moves between open areas, so a unit placed in a hallway helps two rooms. A closed 500 square foot room is the easier job. Use how to choose the right size air purifier to count the open area, and add a second unit if furniture blocks the airflow.
Looking ahead, big rooms are where the largest claims live. The Okaysou Apollo 818 and the Hathaspace HSP002 on the older page both quoted 1,500 square feet, and the older page itself admitted that is one air change an hour, or about 300 square feet at five. The Alen BreatheSmart 75i link now shows as currently unavailable, and the AirDoctor 5500 has no Amazon listing that could be found. The catch is that a headline number can be five times too generous for a room with allergies or smoke.
4 Air Purifiers for Large Rooms
Prices and ratings were checked on Amazon on October 16, 2026.
Price on Amazon: $594.99 | 4.6 stars from 13,937 ratings (checked October 16, 2026)
The Medify MA-112 is listed for 5,948 square feet in an hour with a HEPA filter and quiet removal to 0.3 microns. It has a 4.6 rating from over 13,900 ratings.
Price on Amazon: $633.69 | 4.6 stars from 2,210 ratings (checked October 16, 2026)
The Coway Airmega 400 has a two-level filter, a 22 to 52 dB range on the older page and about 624 square feet at five changes an hour. It has a 4.6 rating from over 2,200 ratings.
Price on Amazon: $299.99 | 4.6 stars from 3,201 ratings (checked October 16, 2026)
The Hathaspace HSP002 is a heavy five-stage tower with an H13 filter. The older review put it at about 260 CFM. It has a 4.6 rating from over 3,200 ratings.
Price on Amazon: $179.99 | 4.6 stars from 32,435 ratings (checked October 16, 2026)
The Winix 5510 is listed for up to 1,881 square feet in one hour with true HEPA, a carbon filter and app support. It has a 4.6 rating from over 32,000 ratings.
The risk to watch is the sizing gap. A 1,000 square foot open plan with an 8 foot ceiling needs about 667 CFM for five changes an hour, and about 267 CFM for two. Few single units reach the first number. Expect more makers to answer with a bigger box, not a better filter. Two mid-size units in different corners often beat one giant tower, and they cost less to filter.
Filter Cost for Big Units
Large units carry large filters. Check the price before you buy and plan one full change a year. The air purifier filter replacement cost guide shows how a filter set can run $60 to several hundred dollars. The Airmega 400 is covered in our Coway Airmega 400 review.
Noise and Placement
The Airmega 400 ranges from 22 to 52 dB on the older page. Large units are loud on high, so choose one that does the job on a middle speed. Leave a foot of clearance, and keep the unit away from heat vents.
FAQ
Do air purifiers work in large rooms?
Yes, if the airflow fits the room. Check the CADR and plan on two to five air changes an hour.
Can an air purifier be too big for a room?
It can be loud and costly to run, but it will not harm the air.
Can you use two air purifiers in one large room?
Yes. Two mid-size units in different corners often work better than one tower.
Is the Alen 75i still sold on Amazon?
It shows as currently unavailable as of October 16, 2026.
Final Word
Size a large room on CADR and plan for the filter bill. The Winix 5510 is the low-cost start, and the Medify or Airmega fits a very big space.
What happens next: expect Wi-Fi towers to fall in price while filters stay costly. Plan the filter bill before you buy, and size on the CADR, not on the biggest number on the page.
